Stelios Kapetanakis (University of Brighton): Abstract

Data Mining is an effective approach to infer observed patterns and useful information from historical data. By using data mining a company can learn more about its operations, develop more effective working strategies, increase efficiency and decrease costs. Being able to use this knowledge for real time reasoning in mission critical environments is not a minor challenge since past experience may be obsolete, similar situations to past ones may call for different actions and data can be fuzzy or incomplete.

This talk presents work that has been done in the area of Railways Analytics, reflecting on several approaches to mine useful knowledge patterns to manage and mitigate real time operational challenges. The learning and outcomes from these applications will be presented along with experimental approaches for future improvement.
