Professor Koushik Maharatna (University of Southampton)

Over the last 20+ years Prof. Maharatna has made pioneering contributions in the fields of VLSI circuits and systems design, biomedical signal processing and machine learning for healthcare technology, and mathematical modelling of biological systems. He has developed 7 successfully trialled automated tools for diagnostics and analysis of clinical data in the fields of cardiovascular disease monitoring, stroke rehabilitation and neurodegenerative diseases. These tools are currently being used in 5 European hospitals. He has published 180+ scientific articles in high-impact journals and conferences. He has been actively involved in a number of flagship conferences of IEEE as Programme Committee member/track chair, gave several invited talks in highly rated conferences and workshops in the field of biomedical signal processing and machine learning for healthcare systems development and edited the book “Systems design for remote healthcare” bringing together academics and industrialists around Europe. His current research interest is understanding information flow in brain and its application in non-invasive brain stimulation.
