Dr. Anelia Kurteva (Assistant Professor of Computer Science, University of Birmingham, UK): AbstractRecent advancements in generative AI while promising, raise concerns about reliability, safety and security necessitating responsible development and multidisciplinary collaboration. AI heavily relies on data. However, the process of collecting, preparing and using data for AI is complex and faces several socio-technical challenges related to data quality (ensuring data is clean, accurate, and free from errors or inconsistencies), dealing with bias, privacy and security (protecting sensitive personal information and complying with data protection regulations such as the GDPR) and the ethical implications of these. In this talk we will discuss how technologies such as ontologies and knowledge graphs can support the development of more responsible AI systems by enabling data interoperability, privacy and compliance verification of data sharing in smart cities and sustainability (e.g. digital product passport) cases at scale.
